Phillip Cancar taking inspiration from Cammy Devlin and Nathanial Atkinson as he begins life at Livingston

Phillip Cancar hopes to make as big an impact at Livingston this season as his Australian compatriots after being inspired by Cammy Devlin and Nathanial Atkinson at Hearts.

Cancar penned a two-year deal with the Lions last month to join from A-League side Western Sydney Wanderers.

The 21-year-old defender will follow in the footsteps of Livingston’s recent high-profile ‘Aussie’, Queensland-born Lyndon Dykes.

And, with Kye Rowles also joining Hearts this summer and Lewis Miller moving from the A-League to Hibs, Cancar admits he does not have far to look for role models.

He said: “I’m extremely happy to be joining Livingston.

“I’ve spoken to a few of the Aussie boys that are in the league about the club and I’ve watched a few games.

“As an Australian young boy coming from the A-League to the Scottish league and seeing how well they’re doing [Devlin and Atkinson] is very inspiring.

“As an Aussie kid I’m happy for them and I’m excited to take a role in this club and to try to do as well as they’re doing.

“You’ve got to challenge yourself and sometimes you’ve got to leave home and take yourself out of your comfort zone. So, I’m excited.”
