Philippe Clement shoves Todd Cantwell away from referee flashpoint

Philippe Clement was furious with his Rangers player Todd Cantwell following his side's 1-0 loss to Celtic this afternoon.

Footage has emerged on social media which shows the Rangers boss shoving the 26-year-old away from referee Nick Walsh at full-time.

The clip - widely shared online - seems to show the former Norwich City playmaker engaging in a heated discussion with the officials following Rangers' defeat in the Scottish Cup final 2024.

But before things could be taken further, with the player already booked for an on-the-ball incident with Greg Taylor following his substitution on 70 minutes, Clement took matters into his own hands.

The Belgian was heavy-handed with his player as he grabbed his upper arms and pushed him away from the situation.

The moment came just as the full-time whistle was sounded on the game, and Brendan Rodgers and his team secured a league and cup double at the national stadium.

Clement would later address his players on the pitch in what seemed to be a public dustdown before they collected their runners-up medals.

Standing in the centre of a circle of his players, Clement looked to have firm words with his players over the loss.

Despite his visible anger directed at Cantwell's action, Clement did share his frustration with the officials.

He was not happy with the decision to chop of Abdallah Sima's goal on 59 minutes following Nicolas Raskin's push on Joe Hart.

"If you have the scenario also that you score goals and they are disallowed in that way, that is also in that moment a disappointment," he said. "If I compare with the push that Scales gave to Dujon Sterling in the first half, it's a much bigger push than what happened with Joe Hart today.

"If I see also how all the Celtic defenders are grabbing my players and having their arms around their neck and around their waist...it's a really big call to make to disallow the goal."
