Philippe Clement provides Ross McCausland Rangers contract update

Rangers boss Philippe Clement has provided an update on the ongoing contract talks with youngster Ross McCausland.

The 20-year-old has burst onto the scene under the new Ibrox boss after making his first start against Livingston.

McCausland also received his first cap for Northern Ireland during the recent international break.

His contract expires next summer but Clement has revealed he has a "good feeling" about the negotiations over a new deal.

He said: "We are talking with him and I have a good feeling around it. But it needs to be on paper first...I have no idea about that [other clubs interested].

"That's always something for the player and his agent. I've been very clear about Ross, I could have treated the situation in a different way, first let him sign a contract before letting him play or start.

"I didn't do that because I know how important Glasgow Rangers is for us. After his game against Livingston and a good performance, he got the international call.

"That's also because he started the game, so I think we're on the right way. I have total trust it's going to be positive."

Clement also refused to be drawn on speculation surrounding a possible return to Rangers for Ryan Kent.

The winger left Ibrox on a free transfer in the summer to join Turkish giants Fenerbahce.

However, despite signing a four-year deal, Kent has only played a bit-part role for his new club.

Of his 14 outings for Fenerbahce since his switch, Kent has started just seven.

As a result, speculation has grown over a departure for Kent on loan in January with Rangers among the clubs touted with an interest.

However, Clement insisted he would not discuss any transfer rumours and would only comment on players inside Ibrox.

"I can tell something really important for the next two months," he continued. "I never go into rumours because it is no use to go into rumours.

"I will speak about players if they are in the building because I have been now more than 30 years in football.

"So many things can happen before a player is in the building or out the building.

"It is of no use to talk about rumours with me because I can only say things when they are realistic.

"And it is not about this case, I want to be clear about that, just in general for the next two months - for December and January."
