Philippe Clement referenced Celtic's transfer spend in a blunt comparison as he responded to questions on squad depth at Ibrox.
The Rangers boss cited a '£30m summer spend' from Celtic as he admitted squad depth is a non-negotiable in the modern game.
However, Clement stated Rangers have to "work hard" to compete against the financial power of their Glasgow rivals as he called for better recruitment and improving the academy production line.
"It’s something that is necessary in seasons like now, with that amount of games," said Clement when asked whether Rangers lacked strength in depth.
"We had talks about that. I don’t read everything, but people tell me things sometimes. There’s been a lot of fuss about rotation. I explained it is a normal thing.
"It’s not only a normal thing here, look at the weekend, our rivals in this city, how many players did they change from the weekend before?

"And they spent £30 million in the summer on players who are not all the time in the starting eleven.
"So, yes, it is an important part. We don’t have the same chequebook in that way, so we have to work hard to make it better by getting talents in or to get players out of our academy, even better."
Asked whether the club is closer to adding new signings this month, the Ibrox boss added: "Like I said the last press conference, Patrick will address that and what the plan is for the club for January.
"It will be in the next couple of days. It’s not going to take more than one week, that’s for sure."
