Phil Mickleson has warned "a lot of stuff is going to happen next year" as the Saudi-backed LIV Golf tour finishes its season in Miami.
The American icon, a winner of six major championships, helped ignite golf's civil war earlier this year when he signed for Greg Norman's rebel venture. Among the first high-profile defectors from the PGA Tour, 'Leftie' was one of 48 players - alongside newly crowned overall champion Dustin Johnson - to compete at the inaugural LIV event in St Albans in June.
But since then the division within the sport has intensified with the likes of Cameron Smith, Bryson DeChambeau, Brooks Koepka, and ex- Ryder Cup captain Henrik Stenson following suit. The status quo has sought to repel the tide, with Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods amongst the most vociferous critics.
Authorities have thus far refused to recognise LIV events with ranking points, a notion that has incensed Norman and co. But Mickelson, 52, has now fired a warning during the Team Championship finale at Trump National Doral Miami.
"I’m pretty surprised at how far LIV has come because there was a lot of uncertainty, like who would play in London," he told reporters. "You look at the strength of the league now and you have a lot of really strong players and you have a lot of really strong characters in the game.
"Whether you love them or hate them, there’s a lot of guys here that people want to see. I think there’s a lot of possibilities and I’m not sure how it’ll play out.
"I just know that in the next, over the course of the next year, a lot of stuff is going to happen, and things will kind of iron themselves out."
In 2022, LIV Golf events took place in England, America, Thailand, and Saudi Arabia, with the calendar set to expand in 2023.
And Mickleson also claimed that "multiple tours" have been asking to host one of their events.
