Phil MacHugh has been friends with Line of Duty star Martin Compston for many years.
The pair previously dreamed up the idea of a travel show and recently had their wish come true as they embarked on a six-week journey around their native of Scotland to explore the rich culture the country has to offer.
In the six-part series, airing on BBC Two every Friday, Phil, 37, and 38-year-old Martin explore some incredible places around Scotland – even visiting Phil's roots in the Western Isles.
But, Phil revealed in an exclusive chat with the Mirror that some of the best moments were when the camera crew clocked off for the day.
As the latest episode aired on BBC Two on Friday, Phil revealed: "One of the best moments was when the cameras actually stopped. And one night we were in the Western Isles and Martin – I think there was a clip because we got a camera given ourselves when the crew went away.
"Martin and I had a few drinks and we're like, 'wow' – this was the beginning of the six week journey where we thought, 'well is amazing to do this, it was just an idea that we came up with and can you believe we're actually doing this'.
"And Martin I had a few drinks and all of a sudden he starts playing GBX which is trance music in the middle of the Outer Hebrides, which is a very small, quiet, idyllic place and he has a full on rave to himself!
"Moments like that you will always remember because it's just funny, it's just comical. For me it's typical Martin, who is a fun character who just loves that spur of the moment idea doing something fun and spontaneous. "
In the series, the pair travel up and down the country as Phil told the Mirror that they clocked up just over 1,200 miles on their six week journey.
However, there was one destination which was pretty special for Phil to revisit as he explained: "My family are from the Outer Hebrides in Scotland, which is we northwest of the country. It's the most beautiful, idillic, stunning part of the country.
"The white beaches, crystal clear waters, it's like going to the Caribbean! Unfortunately, is not as hot as the Caribbean. But, nevertheless it is just wow and it's spectacular."
He added: "I hadn't been back in so many years – my family moved to the city but it's where I spent all my summer holidays as a kid. And taking Martin – who is a really good friend of mine – for the first time was really special because, he had never seen it, he had never been to that part of Scotland.
"And it was just really lovely to get to take him to where me and my family spent so many summers together. And he loved it as well.
"It's just such a beautiful place that not many Scots really go to, or anybody goes to. It's almost like an unspoiled land, which is just incredible to tune in and switch off to the fast paced world of the cities."
The pair also visit Glasgow, Edinburgh, the Western Isles and many more on their journeys, stopping off at each destination for four days.
However, Phil revealed it isn't just the picturesque Scottish scenery that viewers are enjoying.
"The one thing that is definitely commented on in the series that people have said to both of us, is the soundtrack," he said.
"We're both big into music and we both love all genres of music. And the soundtrack to the show is something that everyone's commenting on. We've even had requests for people to create a Spotify list of all the songs we play."
Martin Compston's Scottish Fling airs on Fridays at 9.30pm on BBC Two and is also available on BBC iPlayer.
