Phil Lynott Convention comes to Dublin in celebration of music legend's birthday

A Phil Lynott Convention is coming to Dublin in honour of the legend's 72nd birthday.

The event will take place on August 20 and will celebrate the music and life of the Crumlin star.

This year, the celebrations will be made even more special as Brian Downey’s ‘Alive and Dangerous’ will take to the stage and headline a very special concert where Phil was brought up.

He rightly spoke lovingly of Dublin and Ireland as his home so, it’s a special moment for The Phil Lynott Convention to be coming to the capital.

The concert will take place at The Well, St. Stephen’s Green, Dublin and features Brian Downey’s Alive and Dangerous, Paul J Bolger, Johnny D Fox and very special guests.

Lynott was Ireland's first true rock star as he lead the iconic Irish band, Thin Lizzy, through the 70s and 80s.

The documentary, "Phil Lynott: Songs For While I'm Away" recently aired on RTE One. It explores the entirety of Lynott's life, from his birth and childhood to the explosive success of Thin Lizzy, up to the singer's personal struggles and tragic death at the age of 36.

Phil died in Salisbury on January 4, 1986 after being diagnosed with septicaemia, which led to him contracting pneumonia and heart failure which ultimately caused his death.

He's buried in St Fintan's Cemetery in Sutton, Co Dublin.

Previously, an inaugural Phil Lynott Convention in 2019 saw a memorial plaque unveiling at Hallam Hospital, West Bromwich where he was born.

Then on 20 August 2021, there was an unveiling of a statue in West Bromwich to pay tribute to the music hero.

There were poetry readings at the statue in Harry Street and film and documentary screenings during the day along with a special concert will make this a hugely memorable occasion.

Tickets for this year’s event in Dublin are €27.50 and will go on sale this Tuesday 17 May at 9.00am from www.ticketmaster.ie and www.thewelldublin.ie .
