Phil Foden ruled out of two England fixtures with Man City teammate Raheem Sterling a doubt

Phil Foden will not feature in England’s next two Nations League fixtures after testing positive for Covid-19.

The Manchester City playmaker has left the camp and will be unavailable for Saturday’s game away in Hungary and Tuesday’s tie with Germany. However, Gareth Southgate hopes he will be back to face Italy on June 11.

Raheem Sterling is ill which makes him a doubt for the Hungary clash. A decision has not yet been made on his participation, with the City forward just one game away from his 75th Three Lions cap.

But with Sterling missing a number of training sessions, it’s thought an appearance at the Puskas Arena will be unlikely. Speaking to the press ahead of Saturday's 5pm kick-off, Southgate said: “ Phil Foden has unfortunately tested positive for Covid, so he has had to leave.

“Hopefully he will be able to meet up when we get back from Germany. Raheem Sterling has missed a couple of days of training with illness.

“We’ll assess whether we involve him tomorrow, but everybody else is fully fit.” Jack Grealish, Kyle Walker and John Stones are all fit ahead of the Group A3 opener.
