Phibsboro Cat Rescue appeals for emergency donations on International Cat Day

The founders of the Phibsboro Cat Rescue have appealed for donations this International Cat Day as the organisation faces an uncertain future.

The no-kill animal charity previously ran a vegan cat café, The Purr which helped raise donations for the group. However, the café was forced to close recently as a result of depleting funds. The cat rescue itself is running a deficit of €3,000 a month and now also risks closure.

“Everyone who follows us on social media knows how dedicated we are to helping lost, abandoned and feral cats and kittens in around Dublin (and often further afield). Our work is only possible with your support,” the charity wrote in a post on Instagram.

The cat rescue went on to add that they were trying their best to become self-financing but have almost no funds left to work with. This is one of several posts the group has put up in recent days appealing for public support, admitting on Friday they would need to make a decision regarding the charity's future.

The group turned to Facebook last week to announce they would be completing bucket donations outside the GPO this Saturday and Sunday in an effort to save their charity. They also encouraged anyone interested in volunteering for the bucket collection to contact them through their email address.

The group says it has achieved much of its work with little funding to date and has helped rescue over 5,000 cats and kittens since its inception in 2014. Several cats living in the rescue would spend the daytime in a special playroom in The Purr Café which was visible to customers through glass windows.

Further information on how to donate is available on their Facebook page.
