It’s no secret that the Raiders are in the market for a veteran pass rusher. After releasing Chandler Jones earlier this month, the Raiders need another viable option opposite of Maxx Crosby until Tyree Wilson is ready.
The names that have been floated around have included Josh Uche, Chase Young, and Danielle Hunter. But there is another name that needs to be considered as a possible trade target.
In a recent article by Pro Football Focus, Brad Spielberger suggested that the Raiders make a move for Jets EDGE Carl Lawson. Lawson has been buried on the depth chart in New York, but could be a massive improvement for Las Vegas:
Lawson signed a reworked contract heading into the 2023 season that lowered his salary to $6 million, so he’s a far more affordable option for an acquiring team, which is an added benefit for the Raiders. Las Vegas can effectively buy low on a player who would be starting for several other teams. And at 3-3, the Raiders are in the mix for an AFC wild-card bid.
It wouldn’t cost a lot for the Raiders to acquire Lawson and that’s what makes this so intriguing. He’s still a productive pass rusher who can get to the quarterback often. Keep an eye on him during the trade deadline as he makes a ton of sense for Las Vegas, especially if they improve to 4-3 with a win over the Bears.
