Picking the Los Angeles Rams’ top three players heading into a given season has been difficult for the last six years or so. That’s a testament to the talent they’ve had on the roster, making it tough to separate the best from the rest.
This year is very different for Los Angeles. Picking the Rams’ three best players isn’t difficult at all as the 2023 season approaches. It’s as straightforward as it gets, something Pro Football Focus made very clear in its selection of the top three for every team in the NFL.
No team was easier to pick than the Rams: Aaron Donald, Cooper Kupp and Matthew Stafford. That trio was so far ahead of the rest of the team’s roster that in the “also considered” portion of the article, PFF listed “none” for the Rams. There wasn’t even one other player worth considering for the top three.
The Rams’ top three players are straightforward. Donald could be considered one of the best football players of all time, regardless of position, as he has never fallen short of an elite overall grade in nine NFL seasons. Kupp played just nine games in 2022 but was coming off a 2021 season during which he looked truly unstoppable with a 93.0 overall grade. With Jalen Ramsey now in Miami, the last nod goes to Stafford, who we just want to see be healthy for a full season in 2023.
If we were to do this exercise last season, there would’ve been far more players to consider. Jalen Ramsey would’ve been up there, as would Bobby Wagner. Even Leonard Floyd was considered one of the Rams’ top players. It would’ve been even tougher in 2021 when they had Andrew Whitworth at left tackle still.
Rob Havenstein and Tyler Higbee could’ve potentially warranted consideration for the top three this year but Donald, Kupp and Stafford are head and shoulders above the rest of the Rams’ talent.
