For those still banging the drum about the poor quality of the New York Giants’ offensive line, your voices may have finally been heard. The Giants no longer have one the league’s worst lines, according to a new ranking by Pro Football Focus.
The Giants have been ranked 18th overall by PFF and placed in a category called “TIER 4: At Least One Good Tackle.”
“That one good tackle is former fourth overall pick Andrew Thomas, although Evan Neal is a promising rookie,” writes PFF’s Michael Renner. “Thomas’ abysmal rookie season is still ingrained in a lot of minds, but many missed him become one of the best pass-protecting tackles in the league last year. He allowed only 18 pressures on 517 pass-blocking snaps after giving up 57 as a rookie.”
Renner predicts the Giants’ starters will be Thomas and Neal at left and right tackle, free agents Jon Feliciano and Mark Glowinski at center and right guard and Shane Lemieux at left guard.
The Giants will also have several veteran free agents as depth such as Max Garcia, Matt Gono and Jamil Douglas as well as their two highly-regarded draft picks out of North Carolina (Joshua Ezeudu, Marcus McKeethan).
New offensive line coach Bobby Johnson has already shown enthusiasm in the group and there is hope this unit is on it’s way back up. PFF sure thinks so.
