PFF predicts Rams to sign G Isaac Seumalo in free agency

The Los Angeles Rams will understandably need to consider making changes to the offensive line this offseason after the poor performance of the unit in 2022. Ahead of free agency, PFF’s Arjun Menon and Brad Spielberger made their predicted landing spots for impending free agents and cited guard Isaac Seumalo, who ranked No. 29 in PFF’s top 50, as a player the Rams could sign.

The Rams’ offensive line took a huge step back in 2022 partly due to injuries but also partly because of the Andrew Whitworth and Austin Corbett departures in the offseason. Seumalo comes from the Eagles, who were one of the best zone running teams in the league. Rams head coach Sean McVay’s run scheme is primarily zone runs, so Seumalo should fit in well. Durability is a bit of a concern for Seumalo, but the Rams’ sports science and medical staff is one of the best in the league. Seumalo should help to bolster the interior of that offensive line for 2023.

Seumalo began his career as a third-round pick in the 2016 NFL draft by the Philadelphia Eagles out of Oregon State. The 29-year-old guard has spent the first seven seasons of his career with the Eagles, starting in all 20 games during the 2022 season (including the playoffs).

In his 17 starts this past season, Seumalo allowed only one sack on 1,135 offensive snaps and received an overall PFF grade of 75.2. The only concern with Seumalo is injuries as he’s started in more than 10 games in a season just twice in his career.

Entering the offseason, the Rams could lose David Edwards in free agency, leaving the team in need of interior linemen. After allowing a whopping 59 sacks and having no semblance of a run game for the majority of the 2022 season, Seumalo could be an option to bolster the interior of the trenches.
