PFF lists Colts’ biggest offseason needs entering 2022

The Indianapolis Colts have a lot of work to do during the 2022 offseason and will be doing so with some massive needs at the game’s most important positions.

While we took a look at the biggest offseason needs for the Colts earlier, Anthony Treash of Pro Football Focus gave his take on what Indy should be looking toward this offseason.

INDIANAPOLIS COLTS: QB, WR, OT, DL

Indianapolis went all-in on Carson Wentz last offseason by trading away a 2022 first-rounder and last year’s third-round pick. After a tumultuous collapse to keep the Colts out of the postseason, head coach Frank Reich and company are now back to square one and keeping all options open at the most important position on the field.

Wentz was his normal, volatile self in 2021 and ended up with a 67.9 passing grade, ranking 21st in the NFL. If the Colts like one of the rookie signal-caller prospects, a trade-up will be required. While there are no veterans slated to hit free agency who would be considered an upgrade from Wentz, the team does have ample cap space to make improvements to the roster, specifically at wide receiver and left tackle.

Most of this is stuff we already know. The quarterback situation with Carson Wentz is currently in limbo while the team makes its plans for the offseason. They have ways to get out this offseason if they wanted to but that means they have to find an immediate upgrade—or one for the future.

The left tackle position is also up in the air. The Colts could look for another short-term fix or look to the draft for a long-term solution.

Meanwhile, the wide receiver room is a group that Chris Ballard is still bullish on but one that still needs better talent added. The pass rush is arguably the biggest need for the Colts this offseason.
