PFA award snub for Rangers is laughable and imagine what Charles Cook could have done for Gio in Europe – Hotline

The Hotline wind-up merchants were out in force once again with Old Firm tit-for-tat aplenty.

There was even a caller who's created his own song for Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou.

Gordon Ashley, Ayr, said: "It’s so funny listening to Rangers fans clinging onto their Europa League semi-final comfort blanket on the Hotline. These are the same people who told us all that mattered this season was the league title and £40m prize money.

"The truth is that nobody cares about European semi-finalists and all three of Celtic's last 16 Champions League qualifications are bigger achievements."

Arrin Geddes, Irvine, said: "Caller John Bruce’s 'two out of 10' dig is laughable as Rangers come into form for a season and all of a sudden they are top dogs. How about one out of 16 major trophy wins since 2016/17?"

Robert McEwan, Mount Vernon, said: "You would think people who support their team would concentrate on them instead of coming on the Hotline and constantly going on about the soon to be champions Glasgow Celtic."

Andy Scott emailed: "A report on the BBC Sport website states Liverpool are on course for unprecedented quadruple. Celtic are named as one of a handful of sides to have done the European Cup, Domestic Cup and League treble.

Rangers anager Giovanni van Bronckhorst (PA)

" Manchester United, Barcelona, Inter Milan, Bayern Munich, Celtic, Ajax and PSV have all won the treble of European Cup, league title and domestic cup.

"Call it bias, ignorance or just bad reporting but the BBC needs correcting. The 'Unprecedented Quadruple' does in fact have a precedent, namely the Lisbon Lions. I may be a Rangers fan but credit where credit is due."

Paddy Gowans emailed: "Rangers go on about winning the European Cup Winners’ Cup in 1972 but they got in the back door as they were hammered 4-0 in the Scottish Cup Final by Celtic. Celtic won the league so Rangers were the beaten finalists."

David Speirs, Coalhall, said: "Well said Hotline regular Gordon Ashley for praising Rangers for their performances in Europe and gaining the automatic Champions League spot. Two things though Gordon, £40million won’t buy you a Champions League team and secondly, the league isn’t over."

Stuart McLeod, Stepps, said: "Mr Ashley has been at the tranquilisers again after claiming Celtic can now move forward in Europe with a £40m bounty and take on the cream of Europe. Can I remind him his club had access to these riches unopposed in Scottish football and we have witnessed this elite European team that has failed to win a knockout match in Europe since 2004."

Jimmy Murray, Edinburgh, said: "I remember Rangers of the past and the Lawrence dynasty. They would never have had this nonsense with cinch. They had far too much class to embarrass the club. The present Rangers board is an embarrassment.

"Surely they cannot accept any money from cinch. Any monies they are due they should pass on to the lower leagues. They should try and show at least a little bit of class."

Ronnie Collins emailed: "I'm not a Celtic supporter but I hear they are struggling to find a song where the manager's name fits into it.

"What about this: 'So here he is Ange Postecoglou, everybody's having fun, look to the future now, he's only just begun'

"I'm singing it already. Good job big man."

Gary Stevenson, Newtonhill, said: "Imagine what Rangers would have been able to achieve in Europe if only we had Craig Gordon, Tom Rogic, Callum McGregor and Reagan Charles-Cook. Here was me thinking the PFA did not have a sense of humour."

Hugh McKirdy emailed: "Regarding Hotline caller Andrew lambs comments about Aberdeen only trying against Rangers. Under Derek Mcinnes they never finished outside the top four so simple arithmetic tells you they beat a few teams. Back to school Andrew."

Derek Hay, Fife, said: "I'd like to tell Andrew Lamb that there isn't a manager who hasn't been sacked. Yes, the football wasn't great but we'd never win just one game in four months or be flirting with the play-offs under McInnes, not a chance."

Robert Pender emailed: I recorded Liverpool's Champions League game because I wanted to see the Youth of Hearts and Rangers. I was impressed with the skill and technical ability. If only 35 or so years back our youth had the same support and structure."
