Lizards, snakes and buffalo aren't the usual students attending lectures at university this year but a new club is bringing them onto campus.

The Pets Society at the University of Canberra has quickly become popular since it was launched by student Jesse Wells this year.

Now, you might spot a lizard attending your chemistry lecture.

"We'll go for a big walk, we have a little exercise with them, play ball and treat them with dog-friendly peanut butter," Mr Wells said.

You don't have to be a University of Canberra student to bring your pet along to the club's pet meet-ups, with a session running every Sunday from 4-6pm. You can sign up through the UC Pet Society website.

This is just one of the clubs making campus life attractive for students returning after the chaos and uncertainty of the pandemic.

Nutritionist Monique Watts hopes to change the tradition of two-minute noodle consumption during late nights writing essays.

With university students struggling to afford the ingredients for healthy meals, Ms Watts offers cheap and healthy recipes for students at the Catholic University of Canberra.

"I started this club with a focus on creating healthy and budget-friendly meals. I know that healthy eating is so important for student wellbeing, especially around exam time," Ms Watts said.

For students searching for a healthy recipe before an exam Ms Watts revealed the meal all students should be cooking.

"Stir fry, quick and easy, you can put so many vegetables in it and it's really healthy," she said.
