Petrol bombing attacks on luxury motors in Airdrie street 'deliberate' as cops hunt four men

Cops are hunting four men after three cars were petrol bombed on a residential street in Airdrie.

Emergency services descended on Newbattle Avenue, Calderbank, around 11.45pm on Monday after four thugs targeted plush motors on the street.

Three cars, a silver Mercedes ML250, a black Range Rover and a white Citroen Berlingo were destroyed as a result of the fire attacks which detectives are treating as deliberate.

Four men were seen in the area at the time of the fires and extensive enquiries are ongoing to trace them.

Three of the men are described as being of slim build while the fourth man is described as being tall and of heavy build.

All four were wearing dark clothing and a dark coloured car was also seen in the area at the time.

Residents yesterday described the area as a 'war zone' as shocking photos showed the extent of the blaze, with the Range Rover Evoque model unrecognisable.

Detective Constable William Murray, of Coatbridge CID, said: "Thankfully nobody has been injured as a result of this reckless act.

"We are treating the fire as deliberate and are asking anyone with any information to get in touch.

"Although this took place in the early hours of the morning, I would ask if you noticed anyone acting suspicious in the area to get in contact with police.

"I would also appeal to anyone who has possible dashcam or CCTV footage that may be able to assist us with our enquiries."

Anyone with any information is asked to Police Scotland via 101 quoting incident 3746 of 14 March, 2022. Alternatively, Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously on 0800 555 111.
