New Delhi: Following the disqualification of Congress leader, Rahul Gandhi as an MP, a plea has been filed in the Supreme Court, by a social worker, challenging the constitutional validity of Section 8(3) of the Representatives of People's (RP) Act.
The plea filed before the Supreme Court by social worker, Abha Mulridharan, from Mallapuram, said that automatic disqualification of People's representatives of elected legislative bodies, after conviction, is illegal.
Advocate Deepak Prakash filed the petition on behalf of Aabha Muralidharan, a social worker from Malappuram.
Prakash said that he is hopeful that the plea would be listed soon for hearing in the Apex Court.
