Peterborough United suffer defender injury blow ahead of taking on Bolton Wanderers

Peterborough United are likely to be without the services of defender Nathan Thompson against Bolton Wanderers owing to concussion.

Posh make the trip to take on Wanderers this weekend. Grant McCann's side are back in League One after being relegated from the Championship last season.

After a bright start, Posh have faded in recent weeks and lost their last five matches in all competitions, including their last three in the league. The most recent of these came last night against Fleetwood Town.

Former Wanderers midfielder Josh Vela found the back of the net for Fleetwood Town last night at London Road to inflict a 1-0 loss on the hosts. Posh have dropped out of the play-off places as a result.

Defender Thompson came off early in the second half with what appears to be concussion. He will therefore have a mandatory spell on the sidelines which will see him sit out the weekend trip to the University of Bolton Stadium.

Speaking to the club website, McCann said: "It looks like concussion, it looks like a header at the back post and he's been knocked so I'm sure he'll probably have to follow some protocols.

"Frustrating for us that we're going to have to lose Nathan for a while but I'll get a proper diagnosis off the physio and the doctor.

"It just seems stop start for him at the minute. The sending off at Derby which we had a response from the referees to say they had made a mistake, which is very nice of them.

"He's missed a game, come back in again and now it looks like he's going to miss probably the next two games I'd say given the protocol. It might be longer, we'll see, so it's not great for Nathan but he's a good professional, he'll keep his wits about him."
