Tony Adams is slated to start alongside Jordan Whitehead on the backend of the defense for the New York Jets this season and some have high expectations for the second-year safety. When discussing his breakout players for the 2023 season, NFL Network’s Peter Schrager listed Adams at No. 9.

The Jets signed Adams as an undrafted rookie out of Illinois in 2022. In his five collegiate seasons at Illinois, Adams totaled 206 tackles, 11.5 tackles for loss, 11 pass breakups, six interceptions, three sacks, and a forced fumble.
As a rookie in 2022, Adams was active in 11 games for the Jets, making one start at safety. The first-year defensive back would record 17 tackles in his debut season with the Jets.
Following a quiet rookie campaign, Adams put together an impressive offseason that saw him climb the depth chart rather quickly. Despite New York bringing in veteran Adrian Amos, the expectation is for Adams to get the first chance to start next to Whitehead at the safety position.
With the Jets having Super Bowl aspirations, Schrager and others believe Adams is in store for a stellar season in 2023.
