NFL Network insider Peter Schrager is doubling down on his idea that Mac Jones could be an MVP candidate in the 2022 season.
Jones had a solid rookie year — passing for 3,801 yards, 22 touchdowns and 13 interceptions. He looks to continue the positive momentum heading into the 2022 season. Jones struggled at the beginning of last season, but managed to find his footing at the season’s midpoint. He helped New England compile a seven-game winning streak, one that helped put the team into playoff contention.
Jones will have his work cut out for him this season, with a new offense and new group of receivers. Even still, Schrager doubled down on his MVP take on Tuesday’s Good Morning Football.
“I said earlier this off-season [when asked to] give us a dark-horse MVP candidate, ‘What about Mac Jones?
“As much as we’re hyping Trey Lance, Trevor Lawrence, Zach Wilson, and of course Justin Fields in Year 2…don’t take Mac for granted. This guy could take a major leap in Year 2.
“There’s a tiny corner in sports media, very small corner, and I’d like to think that I’m a part of it right now. It includes [NFL Network reporter] Mike Giardi up there in New England, Bill Simmons, and his nephew Kyle. We are the Mac Jones corner.”
"There's a tiny corner in sports media & I'm okay leading the charge right now. That's Team Mac Jones. I love the guy & think he will be even better in yr 2. It's @MikeGiardi @BillSimmons @TomShady300 & myself at the moment. Get in now while there's spots available."-@PSchrags pic.twitter.com/1bG6q8SuBd

Jones has managed to assert himself as a team leader despite being in his second year with the Patriots. Between winning the national championship with Alabama last year, and coming in and winning the starting quarterback job with New England, his stock has risen rapidly.
Now, Jones will look to take the next step in what is going to be a crowded AFC East division.
