Peter Schmeichel has warned Manchester United that they still have a "long way to go" - despite Sunday's enthralling 4-2 win over Leeds.
Ralf Rangnick's side battled to a hard-fought win over their bitter rivals in a six-goal thriller at Elland Road to give their top-four hopes a timely boost.
Harry Maguire and Bruno Fernandes had fired United into a two-goal lead before the Whites battled back with two goals in 24 seconds to leave United stunned. But goals from second half substitutes Fred and Anthony Elanga killed the game off.
And although Schmeichel, who racked up over 290 appearances for United, was impressed with the result, he was adamant that Rangnick's side still have much to improve on.
The iconic shot-stopper told 5 Live: "It was important that Manchester United came out in the most difficult circumstances to show the world that we are together and we play as a team.

"Let me be absolutely clear, it was a great win but I think there is a long, long way to to go for the team.
"They've still got in terms of football so many more things to prove."
United's win may not be enough to gloss over their poor recent form, but they did at least show commendable character to ensure Sunday's game wasn't another occasion where they were made to pay for tossing away a lead.
The fiesty clash at Elland Road marked the first occasion that these two have pitted their wits against eachother with fans at Elland Road in almost two decades after last year's clash took place behind closed doors.
And unsurprisingly, it was a game that kept referee Paul Tierney on his toes.
Tierney did his best to let the game flow in apocalyptic conditions - but that didn't stop him from issuing a staggering nine yellow cards during the match.
However, Schmeichel was one of many who appreciated an old-fashioned game in the torrential rain at Elland Road.
And the Danish icon admitted that the conditions and the occasion provided United with an impromptu acid test - which they passed with flying colours.
"It took me back a little bit, in modern day football you don't really see these scruffy games anymore," he added.
"The pitches are so good, of course we get bad weather but yesterday was a big, big test for both teams but of course with the scrutiny that Manchester United are under at the moment it was an acid test for the team and I thought they played really, really well."
And his sentiments were echoed by Rangnick, who conceded that the all-action affair was a great spectacle.
"It was very intense," said the United chief. "If you were a neutral person, [it was] an entertaining football game, there were only very few moments where nothing happened on the pitch."
