Peter Schmeichel admits he's fascinated to see how Erik ten Hag fares in his first season, but has a warning for the newly-appointed Manchester United manager.
After finishing sixth place in the Premier League last campaign and missing out on Champions League qualification, United hired Ten Hag and the Dutchman has already started to make a mark. United have generally impressed with their pre-season performances, as well as signing three players.
Tyrell Malacia, Christian Eriksen and Lisandro Martinez have all been welcomed on board and United remain in the hunt for Frenkie de Jong and other targets. However, according to Schmeichel, there is too much competition from other clubs to guarantee a top-four finish this season.

During an interview with The Times, he said: "It's not going to be as plain-sailing for Manchester City and Liverpool as people think. For both, it's going to be a very different season.
"A massive transition, in terms of the playing style, is taking place at City. Look at Pep Guardiola's transfer business, signing Erling Haaland and letting Raheem Sterling and Gabriel Jesus go."
Schmeichel added: "Liverpool are also changing. Competition will come from Chelsea and Spurs, who have signed well and, in Antonio Conte, have a very clever manager who is so good at getting the maximum out of his players.
"I'm also looking Arsenal and for the first time in a long time thinking 'top four'. Pre-season has been promising [for United], but the reality is a long process of transition is required. The club have backed Erik ten Hag to recruit players that he knows and wanted to work worth. His first season will be fascinating."
