Former goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel is adamant that Manchester United are moving in the right direction under manager Erik ten Hag.
The legendary shot-stopper made the admission ahead of the Reds' FA Cup semi-final against Brighton & Hove Albion at Wembley on Sunday afternoon. A victory will seal United's place in their second domestic cup final of the season, following their Carabao Cup triumph over Newcastle United back in February.
The victory over the Magpies marked United's first trophy in almost six years, offering encouragement that the club is making progress under Ten Hag, who, on the whole, has overseen a brilliant job since taking charge last summer. He has restored standards and given United's supporters optimism that the good times could soon return to Old Trafford.

Despite Thursday night's shambolic Europa League exit at the hands of Sevilla, United are on an upward trajectory ahead of the conclusion of this season and are expected to strengthen their squad this summer. Though they are in need of additional quality, Schmeichel is impressed with the job Ten Hag has overseen so far, admitting that he appears to understand the expectations that come with managing the club.
"I think it's been really, really good," Schmeichel told BBC Sport. "This season, as a fan, you kind of feel it's going in the right direction, and when you have to analyse what is going on it really is going in the right direction.
"I think the authority that Ten Hag has stamped down over the course of this season with the [Cristiano] Ronaldo thing, [Marcus] Rashford coming late, you kind of feel that there is somebody in charge who knows what this club is supposed to do and he's got the toolbox to take it [forwards].
"They're still a long, long way off where they want to be as a football club, but he's done well."
