Peter Rabbit Christmas grotto returns to the Trafford Centre for 2019

Beatrix Potter’s woodland wonderland is being brought to life once again at the Trafford Centre's Christmas grotto.

The Peter Rabbit grotto first appeared last year, letting little ones make their way through the burrow, meeting the characters along the way.

But while it was a hit with many families, others criticised the 'creepy bunny' as too scary for youngsters and said they expected 'a proper Peter Rabbit costume'.

However, shopping centre bosses say it proved such a hit that they've decided to bring it back.

This time Mrs Tiggy Winkle has replaced Jemima Puddle-Duck, and will be the one decorating biscuits with children, while Squirrel Nutkin is a new addition to the line-up.

Children are encouraged to spot Squirrel Nutkin’s secret stash of golden acorns and keep their eyes peeled for that cunning Mr Tod in his twinkly lair.

Alison Niven, centre director at intu Trafford Centre, said: “Christmas is always a magical time here at the centre, with the Peter Rabbit Christmas grotto being hugely popular with families last year.

"We’re delighted to offer this enchanting festive experience once again, with lovely new characters joining us this year, and we’re sure the little ones will leave with huge smiles on their faces.”

Thomas Merrington, creative director at Penguin Ventures (part of Penguin Random House Children’s), said: “The Peter Rabbit grotto at intu Trafford Centre was so popular with families last year, we are delighted he will be returning in 2019 with some brand new characters.

"Peter Rabbit is a much-loved part of childhood, so we are thrilled he will once again have a role in making some magical Christmas memories for many families.”

The grotto will be open outside the Great Hall from November 14 until Christmas Eve.

There will also be autism-friendly experiences, featuring smaller groups of visitors, quieter music and specially trained elves.

Advance booking is recommended, and tickets, costing £8.50 for children and £5.50 for adults, can be booked online.

The experience includes biscuit decorating and a gift from Father Christmas.
