Peter Kay will be making a return to the public eye today, April 29, after he 'quit showbiz' five years ago.
The beloved comedian will host his charity dance-a-thon at London's Alexandra Palace in aid of Cancer Research, as his Dance for Life continues. The stage show was originally set to take place in 2020 but was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.
He is set to be in Liverpool for the show next week, on May 8 and May 9. The show will take place at Liverpool’s SPACE by M&S Bank Arena.

The 48-year-old returned for a two-night show in Manchester last year in aid of Laura Nuttall, a 20-year-old who was diagnosed with Glioblastoma multiforme – an aggressive brain tumour – in 2018. But other than that, he has been mostly out of the spotlight since taking a step back in 2017.
Now that the dance-a-thons are back, we take a look at what happened to cause Peter to leave showbiz for a while.
Why did Peter Kay retire?
In December 2017 Peter announced that he would be taking a step back from the spotlight, cancelling his Live Arena Tour as well as all of his upcoming work projects due to "unforeseen family circumstances". In a statement posted on his Twitter, he said: "Due to unforeseen family circumstances I deeply regret that I am having to cancel all of my upcoming work projects.
"This unfortunately includes my upcoming stand-up tour, Dance For Life shows and any outstanding live work commitments. My sincerest apologies. This decision has not been taken lightly and I’m sure you’ll understand my family must always come first.
"I’ve always endeavoured to protect my family’s privacy from the media. I hope that the media and the public will continue to respect our privacy at this time. Once again I’m very sorry."
