Peter Kay has heckler removed from show to the delight of fans

Fans of Peter Kay were universally delighted to hear the comic was back on the road but have been debating whether the huge star's reaction was correct after seemingly having a member of the audience removed from a recent show.

The Bolton born 49-year-old had been off the road for over a decade before he returned at the end of last year. He performs in Cardiff on June 16 and 17 and also has dates coming up in London, Glasgow, Belfast, Birmingham and Newcastle. He played Liverpool's M&S Bank Arena on Saturday night.

He was in tears after his first appearance on stage and people raved about how good the show was despite one member of the audience allegedly needing to be removed. The Echo reported that it has seen videos about Mr Kay joking about the supposed heckler being taken out of the gig.

He said: "Oh, it's all kicking off here. Where's my phone? He's a bit of an a******e, he's a bit annoying. I like a laugh, I'm a comedian but I can tell all them people round there are getting a bit nowty now. He likes the limelight. I know I do but I'm on stage."

Members of the audience seemed happy to see him go for the most part. Sue Lindsay said on Twitter: "Absolutely top entertainment at the M&S Bank Arena last night. Expert way of dealing with a k***head heckler as well, think 13,000 people were glad to see him escorted out."

But Kieran Hodge thought it was an overreaction. He wrote: "First half [was] funny tonight until you decided to throw that feller out for asking for an autograph, doesn't look good mate I thought you was one of us."

Jake Hughes backed the comedian up. He replied: "Think there was more to it than that, everyone around him seemed p****d off and when they took him out he was staggering all over the place."

Sally Marston tweeted: "Saw you tonight & I can honestly say, I laughed, cried & felt every emotion possible. You are so talented & so glad you got rid of the heckler. Please continue being you."
