Peter Kay fans rushed from gig to hospital as comedian taken off stage

A Peter Kay gig was stopped mid-show after an audience member became unwell.

The comedian is in the midst of a revival tour and is doing big name venues across Ireland and the UK, with three shows in Dublin's 3Arena in April.

However his sold-out show at the Newcastle Utilita Arena was stopped suddenly when a fan sitting in the first row of the auditorium required urgent medical attention, The Mirror reported.

The 49-year-old comedian, is believed to have quickly dashed off the stage in front of his 11,000 fans to assist the audience member before a wheelchair was produced for assistance

Speaking to The Sun UK, one audience member said: "Peter asked if they were being serious, then he asked for the big lights to go on and stewards ran over to see what was going on.

"He then went off stage for around 10/15 mins and one person was seen getting wheelchaired out."

It's understood they were taken by ambulance to hospital

Peter is believed to have returned to the stage after two more members of the audience took ill before saying "three went down then," and adding he "hoped they were ok."

The tour, marking his return to live comedy gigs, is set to continue until August 2023 at Sheffield's Utilita Arena.

It is understood Peter will also release a book later on in the year, on his journey from being obsessed with TV to then being a star of the small screen.

His memoir will mark Kay's long-awaited return to paper and pen, with his last release being his autobiography The Sound Of Laughter in 2006, Saturday Night Peter in 2009 and The Book That's More Than Just A Book in 2011.

He is donating £14,000 to a charity for children – which works out at £1 from every ticket sold for his first gig at London's O2 arena.

Sharing the news, last year, Peter said: "I was coming down on the way here and I thought about what we should do because it's Christmas.

"I think Christmas is about doing good things for other people so we’re gonna take a pound off each of you.

"I'm going to put it in a children's charity and I was looking at my phone on the way down and I found one called Action for Children."
