Peter Haring in new Hearts contract address as he takes 'relaxed' approach to Tynecastle silence

Peter Haring admits he would love a new contract to stay at Hearts - but insists he is still ‘relaxed’ as he nears the end of the season without an offer on the table.

The Austrian has suffered an injury-hit campaign but returned to the starting line-up for the first time since October in Saturday’s 6-1 demolition of Ross County. The 29-year-old suffered concussion during a late substitute’s appearance in the 2-0 defeat to Aberdeen on October 16 and could not shake off the lingering effects of the brain injury. He made his comeback as a replacement against St Mirren earlier this month in Robbie Neilson’s last game in charge and impressed playing the first 75 minutes against County.

The uncertainty over the Jambos’ managerial direction since Neilson’s sacking leaves question marks hanging over Haring’s stay at Tynecastle. But the defensive midfielder, who penned a 12-month extension last year, is adamant he is happy to put his own future on the back burner in the coming weeks. He said: “I hope I can stay beyond the summer, yes. I haven’t thought about it very much, but I’m happy here.

“There is nothing much to say just now. I’m relaxed. I’ve been in this situation, and the club knows me as well. There is no need to rush, so it’s all good.”

Haring helped Hearts stop a worrying run of six straight defeats when they hit County for six at the weekend. And the fans’ favourite admits it was cause for a double celebration as he made his first start in over six months.

He added: “I’m delighted I was finally back in the starting XI. For us all, as a team, it was a big relief that we put on a good performance and got a win again.

“Personally, I felt really good - but the most important was the win. The pressure, to be honest, mostly came from inside, because things haven’t been good enough in the last couple of weeks.

“But it was a good way to respond. Fortunately for us the goals came quickly, the helped us, and it was definitely a very important and much-deserved win.”
