Peter Crouch compares Man City star Jack Grealish to Paul Gascoigne

Peter Crouch has praised Manchester City star Jack Grealish for his on-field temperament and compared the midfielder to Paul Gascoigne.

Grealish certainly likes to enjoy himself off the pitch, but it's the City midfielder's on-field traits which remind Crouch of Paul Gascoigne. The £100million man has enjoyed a strong second season at the Etihad Stadium, more than playing his part in City's incredible Treble winning campaign.

Grealish made himself a regular across City's final stretch of matches, as they lifted the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League under Pep Guardiola. The England international has now got his hands on the trophies and medals he came to City to win, with five goals and 11 assists over the course of an unforgettable campaign.

And former Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool man, Crouch, was particularly impressed by Grealish in the Champions League semi-final clash against Real Madrid - which City won 5-1 on aggregate.

"I think players are definitely better at conducting themselves now,” said the ex-England striker on his Peter Crouch Podcast. "I see players now, like Grealish for instance. I keep going back to Carvajal, against Real Madrid.

"He was obviously just trying to wind [Grealish] up, but he wasn’t allowing him to get into his head. I’ve got a lot of admiration, as a lot of the time I didn’t have that restraint.

"The way he carries the ball, quite often he carries the ball across players and invites tackles. Paul Gascoigne was similar, you hold onto the ball maybe a bit too long but, because he’s good at it and players want to nibble, he draws the fouls.”

The Treble of Premier League, FA Cup and UEFA Champions League is the ultimate footballing achievement and you can get your hands on the only official souvenir publication of Manchester City's history-making 2022-23 season, packed with amazing pictures, match reports and reaction.
