Peter Capaldi 'deeply touched' to receive Scots BAFTA for Outstanding Contribution

Peter Capaldi says he's "deeply touched" to be honoured an award for Outstanding Contribution to Film and Television at this year's Scottish BAFTAs.

The Glasgow -born, multi-talented actor has won five BAFTA Awards to date; including a BAFTA Film Award for Best Short Film, BAFTA TV Award for Best Male Comedy Performance and multiple BAFTA Scotland Awards as both an actor and writer/director.

Capaldi is one of Scotland's highest profile actors and has landed numerous iconic roles.

However, it's probably his stint as the 12th Doctor in Doctor Who and his performance as spin doctor Malcolm Tucker in political satire The Thick of It and In The Loop that he is most well-known.

The 64-year-old first stepped into the TARDIS in 2013 and played the Time Lord for three incredible seasons. Sam Heughan and Brian Cox are also among the names up for awards at the ceremony.

Speaking about the gong, Peter said: "I am deeply touched to be receiving the BAFTA Scotland Outstanding Contribution to Film and TV Award.

"My good luck started with being born in Scotland and continued on with the opportunities afforded me within the Scottish film and TV industry. Without the support of the creative community in Scotland I wouldn’t be here, so to be the recipient of this award is kindness indeed."

Jude MacLaverty, Director of BAFTA Scotland, added: "We are delighted to be presenting this year’s Outstanding Contribution to Film and Television to the exceptionally talented Peter Capaldi.

"Peter Capaldi is one of Scotland’s highest profile actors who has created some of film and televisions most iconic and much loved characters. His work has not only been recognised by his peers and the public, but has also inspired future generations of film and television makers.

"We are honoured to present this award to Peter and look forward to recognising his outstanding achievements in-person at the BAFTA Scotland Awards on Sunday 20 November."

Edith Bowman will host the BAFTA Scotland Awards at DoubleTree by Hilton Glasgow Central.
