Peter Andre's Grease 'no show' leaves fan heartbroken after no official announcement

Peter Andre left one of his fans heartbroken after he missed a performance of the West End musical Grease.

The 49-year-old singer is playing heartthrob Vince Fontaine in the new adaptation of the iconic musical movie, which has been reimagined with new original songs, as well as choreography by former Strictly Come Dancing judge Dame Arlene Phillips.

However, Peter missed the performance at the Dominion Theatre on 20 May, leaving one fan heartbroken, as there was no official announcement that the Mysterious Girl hitmaker wouldn’t be on stage.

The hit musical had only just celebrated its press night on 17 May, leaving some audience members baffled as to why the biggest star of the show was missing.

Liz Copp told The Mirror that she and her husband had travelled to London from their home town of Leicester especially to see Peter as a treat to celebrate their wedding anniversary, but were left disappointed when they arrived at the theatre.

“He was meant to perform and we checked in advance the dates but he was a no show and we paid a lot of money to see him,” she said.

After forking out almost £200 for two tickets, Liz said she was “happy to pay that price as Peter was starring in it, but not happy when all we got to see was an average unknown cast.”

“There was no announcement before the performance, just a small A4 notice on one of the doors saying ‘due to the indisposition of Peter Andre the role will be played by Darren Bennett’,” Liz continued.

She said the staff at the theatre “couldn’t give a reason” why Peter was missing, and Liz checked social media for any updates, but found there was “no explanation or apology”.

“This was so disappointing,” she added, noting that she and her friends had checked the ticket dates to ensure Peter was performing as Vince when they booked.

The Mirror has approached Peter’s rep for comment.

The dad-of-four has been subjected to harsh criticism in recent weeks, beginning with his manhood being discussed during the Wagatha Christie trial earlier this month, and he was recently forced to defend Grease from harsh criticism.

Writing in his weekly column for new! magazine, Peter said there have been “amazing reviews” for the musical, but he called out the unkind critics.

“There have also been a few critics who haven’t been very kind. I understand both sides. But to me, it speaks for itself that every show is full and we are getting a standing ovation every night,” he wrote.
