Pete Wishart takes on Zara Gladman as Euros drama ramps up in knockout stages

AFTER Italy’s departure from the Euros following a 2-0 defeat to Switzerland, could the tournament be set for more shock results?

Pete Wishart will be certainly be hoping so as his team Belgium take on Zara Gladman’s France.

The so-called “golden age” of Belgian players appears to be over despite the valiant efforts of captain Kevin De Bruyne.

In the group stages they only managed one victory against Romania, losing 1-0 to Slovakia and drawing 0-0 with Ukraine.

However, while France will certainly be favourites to win the match with star striker Kylian Mbappe on the pitch, the team has been dogged by a similar set of lacklustre results, also pulling out just a single victory so far against Austria.

Gladman, who is playing for Medical Aid for Palestine, will be hoping her team finds its form in the knockout stages while Wishart, playing for  Scottish Charity Air Ambulance , will be eager for an upset.

In the other game of the day Tadgh Hickey’s Portugal take on Chris McEleny’s Slovenia.

Hickey, playing for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNWRA), will be looking for Portugal to return to form following their surprise 2-0 defeat to Georgia in the last game of the group stages.

While McEleny, playing for Alzheimer Scotland, will hope Cristiano Ronaldo can once again lead his team Euros glory as he did in 2016.
