Pete Davidson booed at basketball game after calling the town 'trash'

Pete Davidson got a less than warm welcome at a basketball game in Syracuse, New York, after fans remembered him calling the town "trash".

The Saturday Night Live comic, 28, made the jibe at the central New York city three years ago after filming a movie with Machine Gun Kelly.

Pete took to the stands at the Carrier Dome in a Syracuse University Orange men's hat and a pair of sunglasses as he attended a college basketball game against the Louisville Cardinals.

As the game came to a timeout in the first half, the jumbotron focussed on the star who was roundly booed by the crowd.

Pete was sat next to Syracuse athletics fans and businessman Adam Weitsman, who took it upon himself to laugh at his pal's public misfortune.

According to Syracuse.com reporter Mike Curtis, Pete later said he didn't "hate" the town and confessed his past comments "just didn't really come out the best way".

In 2018, after filming Big Time Adolescence in the city, Pete spoke to SiriusXM's The Howard Stern Show. He said at the time: "Dude, I was shooting this movie out in Syracuse. Syracuse, you know, it's trash."

The Staten Island native continued: "Worse than Staten Island. The nicest hotel in Syracuse is, like, a f***ing Ramada."

He later followed up his remarks in 2019 following the filming of a music video in the town. In an on-camera interview with Variety, Kim Kardashian 's new beau said: ""It sucks. The whole town of Syracuse blows."

He alleged that he was being "hunted down" by police during his stay in the town as the law enforcement officers know "nothing is going on there".

Town of Manlius Police Capt. Kevin Schafer told Syracuse.com that in Pete was indeed pulled over in August 2018. He revealed the star had violated vehicle and traffic law and said the town's its officers do not target anyone.

He added: "When we stop a vehicle, we don't know who's in it."

Although Pete had been scheduled to perform a gig in the town in 202, he pulled out days before the gig due to "unforeseen circumstances".

However, it appeared he was trying to build bridges in 2021 as he gave the town a shoutout by wearing an SU sweatshirt on Saturday Night Live.

Earlier in the week, Pete had been spotted with his new girlfriend at Jeff Bezos' house enjoying an intimate dinner party.

The new couple were seen arriving at Jeff's pad, where they spent several hours in the company of the richest man in the world.
