Pete Carroll on another collapse vs. Rams: ‘We did this to ourselves’

The Seahawks have suffered far worse defeats over the years than their one-point loss to the Rams yesterday. That said, in the Pete Carroll era it’s difficult to think of another game where they were more responsible for their failure as opposed to just getting beaten by the other team.

Seattle made a fine art of self-sabotage at Sofi Stadium on Sunday, including 13 penalties, a crunch-time interception by Drew Lock and a series of unforgivable game management decisions on the final drive by Carroll and his staff. Afterwards, Pete admitted that the Seahawks did it to themselves.

The good news is that the Seahawks are still on pace for a playoff spot – they currently hold the No. 6 seed in the NFC. There’s also a solid two-game gap between them and the rest of the field of non-playoff teams.

Then again, this could just be the start of a major slide for this team. On Thursday night they’ll host the 49ers, then they’ll visit the Cowboys, then they visit the 49ers, then they finish off the brutal four-game stretch with a home game against the Eagles. Combined, these teams are 22-7 heading into Week 11.

There’s a lot of football left to play, but if the Seahawks wind up missing out on the postseason, this will be where the fall began.
