Pete Carroll expects Geno Smith to play vs. Titans next week

There was plenty of uncertainty at the quarterback position last night for the Seattle Seahawks. Quarterback Geno Smith was active and dressed, but curiously absent from pregame warmups. In the end, backup Drew Lock got his second straight start.

Lock played remarkably well, and engineered an iconic 92 yard touchdown drive to win the game that will live on in the minds of Seahawks fans for years. His strong play helped the Seahawks upset the Philadelphia Eagles 20-17 under the lights of prime time. While it is certainly encouraging to know Lock is a capable backup, it seems that will remain his role in Seattle for now.

As of now, there will be no quarterback controversy in the Emerald City. Head coach Pete Carroll expects Geno Smith to play versus the Titans in Week 16.

There is an old adage: if you have two quarterbacks, you have none. I believe there is validity to that, so far as the importance of having defined roles at the position. It is clear this is still Geno Smith’s team, and as it should be.

Perhaps Drew Lock’s time is next year. But for right now, there is one QB1 for the Seahawks and it is No. 7.
