Pet ferrets found cruelly dumped in box covered with chicken wire on Scots cycle path

A trio of pet ferrets have been found dumped in an plastic box covered with chicken wire on a Scots cycle path.

The animals were discovered closed in the box underneath a shrub of bushes adjacent to Magdalene Gardens in Edinburgh.

Scottish SPCA offers were alerted to the harsh incident on Monday August 29. They attended to recover the animals and found one to have suffered minor injuries.

The others were found to be unharmed. The animal welfare charity is appealing to members of the public for information in a bid to trace their owner.

Scottish SPCA senior inspector John Toule said: “We were only alerted when a member of the public discovered the box and noticed the ferrets inside. One ferret had a minor injury but otherwise they are unharmed.

The animals are now in safe hands of SSPCA officers (SSPCA)

“We understand that people’s circumstances can change, but this is not the right way to give up an animal if you can no longer care for them. Unfortunately they are not microchipped.

“They are now at one of our animal rescue and rehoming centres where they are receiving the care they need. We are urging anyone who recognises these ferrets, or has any information to please contact our confidential animal helpline on 03000 999 999.”
