In a night to remember, Peso Pluma returned to the stage with a powerful and raw performance at Rolling Stone's Future of Music SXSW showcase. Amidst a history-making crowd, Pluma's show not only marked his comeback after a challenging personal period but also showcased the unwavering passion of his fans, some of whom waited in line for almost 20 hours.
His appearance at SXSW was more than just a performance; it was a statement of resilience and defiance. Following a high-profile breakup and rumors of a personal crisis, his return to the spotlight was highly anticipated.
Although he didn't talk about his romantic or personal issues, Hassan Emilio Labande, his real name, did address the media. The artist also sent a strong message of personal and Mexican pride. La Doble P was on fire! Following the boxing categories that led to his stage name, this wasn't a Peso Pluma performance. It was a heavy weight one.
Peso Pluma's adoring fans
The scene at the South by South West conference and festivals was unprecedented—the longest queue in the festival's history. This turnout was a vivid display of affection and support from his fans. The line of people waiting for Peso Pluma wrapped around six blocks, starting at Austin's iconic Moody Theatre. Many were locals, there were also Latinos who were in town for SXSW, but some of the people in the crowd drove hours to be in the audience.
The most dedicated and luckiest fan was a Mexican young man only identified as Carlitos, who declared himself "Peso Pluma's number one fan." He arrived at the venue at 4 a.m. "to make sure I was getting in and seeing. I am the first in line," he said to the media present at the venue. His effort more than paid off.
Carlitos not only got in, but when Peso Pluma heard about the almost 20 hour wait, he invited him backstage, where they had a very heartfelt moment. "You will never have to pay a dime to see me. Whenever you want to see a show, let me know," the artist told him.
Record-Breaking SXSW Performance
Hassan Emilio Labande, his birth name, unleashed a wave of exhilaration with his electrifying performance that had the audience on their feet. Singing his renowned hits like the soul-stirring "Igual que un ángel," the rhythmic "Rubicon," the vibrant "La Bebe (remix)," and the melodic "Rosa Pastel," Labande captivated his fans.
His devoted followers responded with an energy that mirrored the artist's passion, singing along to every word and moving in harmony with the beats. This unforgettable night at the Moody Theatre marked the return of Peso Pluma to what he does best: performing for his fans.
A Celebration of Diversity and the next chapter
The showcase wasn't just about Peso Pluma. It was a celebration of diverse talents. Each artist brought their own unique flair, adding to the night's vibrancy. From the energetic beats of DJ Gabby Got It, who skillfully mixed classic and contemporary tunes, to the dynamic performance of Young Miko, whose charisma and talent turned the Moody Theater into a pulsating hub of dance and music,. This lineup underscored the rich tapestry of modern music, where different genres and cultures seamlessly blend.
Looking ahead, Peso Pluma is set to continue his compelling journey with performances at Coachella and his forthcoming Exodo tour. These appearances are not just concerts; they are the chapters of an ongoing story of an artist reconnecting with his passion and his audience.
During an interview with Rolling Stone magazine, he also confirmed an upcoming album titled "Exodo."
"As long as I'm alive, we're going to keep breaking records," he said to a crazy crowd, which reached it's peak when he yelled with pride: "Qué vivan los corridos, que viva Mexico, y que siempre, por siempre de los siempres viva la puta Doble P!"
