Perthshire was treated to a stunning Northern Lights display on Sunday evening.
The show of beautiful colour was captured across the region and PA readers were quick to send in some of their images.
The phenomenon, also known as an aurora, is caused by electrically charged particles from space entering the Earth’s upper atmosphere at high speed.
Perth resident Stuart Cowper, who captured his shots from Craigie Hill, said: “They were easily visible to the eye.
“Even at street level they were bright enough to be seen over the glare of the street lights. They were most active from about 9pm until 9.30pm and then flared up again just before 11pm.
“The pillars of light at some points were huge and towering high into the sky, to the point you had to look straight up to see the top of them.
“In addition to that, the band of green formed an arc which stretched across the entire horizon and the pink and red hues, which are not always visible, could again be seen to the eye, despite strong light from the moon and street lights.”
Morag Anderson captured the display over Dull in Highland Perthshire.
She said: “The Merry Dancers gave a lively performance. They subdued to a neon flash above Dull before arcing Schiehallion in a farewell of green. What a night.”
Joanna Fox-Pitt saw the aurora display dancing over the Ben Lawers range. Her view, from the south side of Loch Tay, left her ‘in awe”.
