Perthshire road sign leaves locals fuming – can you spot the spelling error?

ROADS agency Bear Scotland have felt the wrath of furious locals after making a spelling mistake in the name of a Perthshire village.

The slip-road sign on the southbound lane near Pitlochry shows the village of Ballinluig as "Ballinguig".

It comes as Transport Scotland undertakes a £3 billion A9 dualling programme between Perth and Inverness, which will upgrade 80 miles of road from single to dual carriageway.

Bear Scotland said the error occurred during the manufacturing process and that they will replace the sign.

Locals took to social media to have their say on the spelling error after Graham Brown shared a picture of the sign, saying: “Ballinluig has been renamed."

"Is that near Titlochry??" one person quipped.

“Please tell me this isn’t true,” another said in response.

One user, who shared a similar photo of the sign on Facebook, wrote: "Everything you need to know about the road department in Highland Perthshire!!! Feckin eejits canny spell let alone fill a pothole!!!"

A Bear Scotland spokesperson said: "This has been raised with our supplier and they are making arrangements for a replacement to be made as soon as possible."

The body said the sign would remain in place for safety reasons but a replacement would be produced.

The Ballinluig junction has been described as an accident black spot by Transport Scotland in the past. But in recent years, it has undergone major road safety improvements.

This includes the construction of two bridges alongside the A9 railway and the installation of a roundabout to eliminate the need for vehicles to cross the congested road.
