Perthshire play centre reveals redevelopment plans to bring 'outdoors indoors'

A leading outdoor adventure play centre in Perthshire has shared more details of its plans to bring the “outdoors indoors.”

The indoor spaces at Active Kids Adventure Park in Stanley are currently being redeveloped to create an all-year-round adventure experience for children and enable families to enjoy the play facilities whether it’s sunny, raining or even snowing.

The Active Kids team have now released photographs showcasing a treehouse themed indoor play space with a variety of nature themed obstacles, tunnels, nets and slides as well as plenty of interactive play spaces for younger children.

The indoor space is set to triple in size with two indoor party rooms, a new toy shop and an outdoor south facing terrace as part of the new café as well as the treehouse themed indoor play area.

While the work it set to be complete by Spring 2023, the Active Kids team are keen to reassure visitors that the adventure park is still open, with all outdoor areas still accessible for children to explore.

As well as the outdoor play areas, there is an array of farm animals for children to visit including goat, sheep, chickens and donkeys.

Rowland Thomson, business development manager at Active Kids Adventure Park, said: “We know how popular Active Kids is with families for outdoor play and it has been brilliant seeing the refurbishments take shape.

“Our new indoor spaces are going to create an exceptional play facility when they’re completed, bringing the outdoors indoors.

“While the work continues, our outdoor park is still open and it’s been busy during school holidays with lots of families visiting. We look forward to welcoming many more in the coming months.”

The plans to redevelop and expand the indoor areas will provide a welcome option for many families looking for indoor activities during the colder months and many parents have voiced their excitement about the refurbishments both on social media and when visiting the park.

Lucy Armstrong, a mum-of-two from Auchterarder, is a regular visitor to Active Kids and believes the refurbishment programme is really significant for young families.

She said: “With two young daughters, we are always looking for fun places to take them where there’s plenty space for them to run around, play and explore.

“Active Kids is great for all these things, so we come here a lot. We’re looking forward to being able to visit even more once the refurbishment is complete next year.

“You can’t underestimate the value of places like Active Kids for young families. This is sure to be welcomed by many families in the area.”

Another mum, Kylie Jones from Perth, is looking forward to being able to utilising the indoor facilities more often meeting friends while the children play.

“I find Active Kids a great place to meet friends and let the children run off energy, sometimes you even get time for a cuppa and a chat,” she said. “I’m really looking forward to exploring the new indoor facilities when they open.”

Currently, a tuck shop is available within the admissions hut for visitors to pick up snacks and hot drinks and a catering van is on-site serving up hot food while the refurbishment work is being carried out.

Active Kids Adventure Park is open from 11am-4pm daily.
