Perthshire golfer Cormac Sharpe celebrates hole-in-one on consecutive days

Perthshire golf ace Cormac Sharpe has pulled off the incredible feat of achieving two holes-in-one on consecutive days.

The 18-year-old from Blairgowrie was competing in the prestigious Carris Trophy - one of amateur golf’s most prestigious junior events – being played this year at Silloth on Solway GC in Cumbria.

And the incredible achievement went down a treat with his fellow competitors and parents – as he stumped up for celebratory drinks at the clubhouse bar.

Sharpe was thrilled when he holed his tee shot at the ninth hole on Wednesday. Much to his surprise and delight he then followed that up by bagging another hole-in-one in Thursday’s third round.

This time his ace came at the 205 yard 16th hole and left him roaring with delight alongside playing partner Eugenio Bernardi.

Sharpe, speaking to England Golf, said: “Wednesday on the ninth is one you can get close to and I tried to do that and it went in. Pretty cool.

“But Thursday was unexpected – it was 195 into the wind, I was trying to get it onto the green so when it disappeared I couldn’t believe it.”

This week’s aces take the Scotsman’s hole-in-one tally to five – three of them coming this year.

Sharpe added: “I got away without buying a drink on Wednesday so I definitely had to buy them Thursday!”

Thursday’s hole-in-one contributed to a fine five-under par round of 67 which helped Sharpe climb up the leaderboard ahead of Friday’s final round.
