Perth residents have sweated through another day of scorching temperatures, with the mercury peaking at a record-breaking 45.1C in the northeastern suburbs.

Perth airport had climbed to 44.6C before midday on Thursday and the city reached 42.6, while Gooseberry Hill recorded 44.9C, according to the Bureau of Meteorology.

Swan Valley sizzled with a 45.1C soon after, beating its previous record for the hottest maximum of 44.5C in February 2022.

Local boutique chocolate factory manager Annika Bennett said air-conditioning had kept the site and its produce cool.

"It got bloody hot outside and it was a slow day, but we had a few red-faced children and their parents come by the cafe for ice-cream after school," she said.

Nearby, Bickley in the hills peaked at 42.1C and Peace reached 45.2C just 0.5C below its February record of 45.7C in 1997 and only 0.8C away from its hottest day in January 1977.

"It's another hot day today with another hot night (forecast)," a bureau spokeswoman told AAP.

"We are expecting the trough off the coast to start making its way inland tomorrow, potentially dropping the temperatures by a degree or two (on Friday)."

A heatwave is covering most of WA, with Geraldton Airport recording 46.5C on Thursday, just below its record temperature of 47.3C in December 2021.

Gin Gin climbed to 44.7C and Cunderdin and Morawa peaked at 44.2C.

Newman in the Pilbara reached 42.8C and Marble Bar 44C.

The temperature reached 41.9C in Perth city on Wednesday and in the eastern suburbs, the maximum climbed to 43.2C at the airport and 41.5C in the hills at Bickley.
