Perth High School pupils delighted with school trip funding boost from drilling firm Merlin

Perth High School physics pupils are off to see the world’s largest particle physics laboratory in Switzerland - with help from a local company.

Merlin ERD Ltd, an industry-leading drilling consultancy and engineering services business based in Perth, was delighted to provide a £1000 donation to Perth High School for their school physics trip to CERN in Geneva.

CERN (Conseil Européen pour la Recherche Nucléaire) or European Council for Nuclear Research was founded in 1952 with the mandate of establishing a world-class fundamental physics research organisation in Europe.

It is where international scientists conduct research on the origins of the universe and subatomic particles.

It is also the home of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), the most powerful particle accelerator in the world.

PHS’s trip for 16 pupils will take place from May 31 to June 3 and will enable the pupils to witness first-hand how science is conducted on a global scale, and will undoubtedly provide them with valuable experience and knowledge to carry forward into their higher studies.

Merlin managing director, Ron Ramage, said: “Having previously provided sponsorship for a Perth High School trip to NASA, we are delighted to have this opportunity to support the school with this trip to CERN.

“We all understand importance of investing in young people and their futures, and this trip aligns with our ambitions of promoting innovation and technology.”
