Perth futsal team Scottish title winners again and qualify for Champions League

PYF Saltires have again been crowned champions of Scotland.

And that means the Perth team has qualified for the Futsal Champions League.

Saltires went through the Scottish Super League season unbeaten to retain their championship crown.

Manager Scott Ballingall said: “It was so good to get back on court after missing so long during Covid.

“We had all our players keen to carry on where they left off and we continued to raise our own standards. We played at a high standard all year.

“We’ve changed very little personnel wise over the past few years but, with a strong Colts team, everyone knows there is no room for complacency. That helps keep a healthy pressure on those in the squad.

“The players push each other on and demand high standards from themselves and their team-mates.”

All eyes will turn to the Champions League draw next month, before the fixtures in August.

Scott added: “To play in the Futsal Champions League is the goal at the beginning of every season.

“It’s a great opportunity for the players to play against some of the best teams in Europe.

“We’ve been here a few times now so know roughly what to expect, so preparations are already well under way.

“We need to make sure we are as prepared as possible for playing in the Champions League to give ourselves the very best chance of being competitive.”

The club is determined to grow the profile of the sport both locally and nationally.

They will this weekend host the PYF Open at DISC in Dundee, welcoming youth clubs from across Scotland and a team from Carlisle.

“Along with the success of Saltires, our Colts team competed in the adult Dundee league this year and gave a good account of themselves,” Scott added.

“In last few months we’ve started holding weekly sessions in Blairgowrie, Crieff and Kinross as well as the Perth sessions. One week we had over 100 kids in Perth and Kinross playing futsal.

“We’re doing our best to grow the club and the game as a whole in Scotland.”
