Perth DJs Mitch Hunter and Max Spittal to host hometown 'Secret Summer Party' at Ice Factory

They are continuing to perform to sold-out crowds at venues across the world.

But music duo Craigie Knowes - fronted up by Fair City DJs Mitch Hunter and Max Spittal - are always conscious that home is where the heart is.

That is why the Perth pair have decided to host ‘Secret Summer Party’ at the Ice Factory courtyard on Saturday, July 15.

They will bring international DJs, underground heroes and artists all under one roof to produce a party, as Hunter describes, “more in the form of something you get in cities like London, Berlin, Paris and Barcelona.” The event, which will cost just £10 (plus booking fee) to attend, will see doors open at 4pm and close at 11pm.

“We felt we wanted to put something on in our hometown and bring back things we’ve picked up from parties we’ve played at in Europe over the years,” former Perth High School student Hunter explained to the PA.

“A new party with a different concept at the Ice Factory. Back when we started going to nightclubs well over 10 years ago, you used to trust the club or the promoters of the party that it was going to be good regardless if you’d heard of the DJ or not.

“This is how you discovered new and interesting music you might not otherwise have come across.

“Nowadays, despite electronic music being more accessible than ever, young people seem to want to see the same headline acts over and over again or the next big act that makes it into the charts with smaller more intimate nights suffering as a result of the commercialisation of dance music.

“People will only go to see someone they’ve heard of and we feel that social media, albeit a necessity in today’s world, has taken the mystique and excitement of the unknown away from dance music. This is where our new party comes in.”

The ‘Secret Summer Party’ will have a strong emphasis on freedom, open mindedness and inclusivity. Craigie Knowes will not be revealing the acts selected beforehand.

Hunter said: “We believe this party should be a safe and enjoyable event for everyone.

“In order to keep the vibe and atmosphere of the party in the moment, we will be running a strict no photography policy, with attendees having a sticker placed over their camera upon entry for the entirety of the party.

“Despite us booking DJs, none of them will be announced and party goers won’t know who they are there to see until they arrive there, putting the trust back into the promoters and the excitement of seeing something new and interesting as well as big DJs they will have heard before.

“In true Craigie Knowes style we will cover multiple genres and sub-genres of electronic music across the seven hours.

“We will be running it as a day party which finishes at 11pm so people from outside Perth can still use public transport to get home and those who no longer wish to stay up until 4am can still come and party without fear of not getting home till the early hours.

“We also want to make it affordable with tickets only costing £10 plus booking fee as we feel it should be accessible to everyone.”

In the not too distant future, Craigie Knowes have festival slots in London, Wales and Croatia as well as a tour of Australia in autumn. But excitement continues to build for their home show.

“The initial response has been excellent,” Hunter revealed. “We’ve got a ridiculously talented line-up of DJs.”
