Dedicated Perth dad Alan Glynn has been wearing out his walking boots in the company of three friends as they undertook nearly 100 miles of the West Highland Way last week.
Alan (42) and wife Ruth tragically lost one of their twin daughters to a Meningitis infection in 2011.
As a way of overcoming the loss, the family have reached out in the past 11 years, spreading awareness of the symptoms so other parents can be aware.
Alan, from Craigie, has been involved in multiple physical challenges this year with the money being collected for Meningitis Now.
On February 5, 2022, the anniversary of 11 years without precious Alexis, Alan and Ruth plus daughters Christina (12) and Amber (9) embarked on the 19 Alexis Rose Challenge (ARC) to continue to remember her special life.
The challenge consists of the Glynns plus a group of loyal friends working as a team, committing to do 19 5k runs or walks or equivalent, each month, lasting 12 months.
The team challenge is all being recorded via a fitness app with regular updates posted online.
The West Highland Way - walking 96 miles over five days - has been Alan’s most recent mission.
Leaving Perth behind on August 28, he took to the trail with Kirsteen Chan, Lana McGinlay and Peter Hutchison from Stirling, with a support team made up of mum and daughter Angie Stocks and Paula Warrender.
Team Alexis Rose are just back in Perth after the triumphant yomp through the hills which finished on Thursday, September 1.
Alan recalled the trip: “Day one, getting to Conic Hill, was a good finisher.
“Lovely weather, lovely view.
“The tough bit was day two, along Loch Lomond. It was like a jungle assault course.
“We met some amazing characters along the way.
“The experience was simply breath-taking.
“Ruth and I just can’t thank enough the people who have just taken part, all those who sponsored us and also a big shout out to our main sponsors for the year, F&K Hair Lounge in Perth who are Lee Kerr and Glen Fettes.”
Next on the list after this is the Loch Ness 10k which Alan is planning on doing with Paula Warrender who leant support to the West Highland Way walkers.
Alan said the total raised this year from all the physical challenges his team had so far done came to just under £2000.
