Perth City South councillor Willie Wilson has officially retired from politics after 42 years in the ring.
The lifelong Lib Dem marked his exit from Perth and Kinross Council affairs on May 5 by posting a picture of his last civic engagement - attending the 100th birthday celebrations of Perth’s Hilda Blues.
He was at Viewlands day centre to wish Mrs Blues a great milestone day with the deputy lord lieutenant of Perth and Kinross, Alex Cairncross.
The visit would be his last opportunity to wear the heavy gold chain declaring him to be the depute provost of Perth and Kinross.
Mr Wilson was first elected in May 1980 and has been the authority’s longest serving councillor.
“Retirement still has to become a reality after the council elections today but this lovely picture is of my last civic duty as councillor,” posted Mr Wilson.
“Just a short time ago, I had the pleasure to present flowers to Mrs Hilda Blues in Viewlands to mark her 100th birthday.
“The occasion was made even more special by the presence of Alex Cairncross, our irrepressible deputy lord lieutenant for Perth and Kinross.
“It has been an honour and privilege to undertake many of these presentations over the last 42 years.”
