Perth -based energy company SSEN will power on with ambitious plans to build a new £15 million office building on the Fair City outskirts.
The two-storey facility proposal was approved by Perth and Kinross Council’s planning department on June 10.
It will be located at the Inveralmond Industrial Estate, at the end of Ruthvenfield Way next to City Plumbing and Lewis Don vehicle repairs.
The expansion plan is due to the “significant growth in electricity transmission planned across the north of Scotland”, said a SSEN spokesperson.
The planning application by SSEN did not confirm how many jobs would be created during or after the construction of the proposed building.
SSEN staff will also continue to work at both Inveralmond House and Grampian House nearby even when the new structure is completed.
The planning application stated that current transmission team workers will move into the office space vacated by OVO Energy later this year, who took over the retail arm of SSEN in January 2020 and revealed at the start of the year it was closing its Perth operations based at Grampian House, shedding 222 jobs.
When the plans were first revealed chief executive of Perthshire Chamber of Commerce Vicki Unite hoped the proposal would get the green light and “act as a fillip for our local economy”.
Following the council approval, a SSEN spokesperson said: “We welcome the recent planning approval for our new state-of-the-art office facility in Perth, which will support our future operational requirements as we continue to deliver a network for net zero emission in the north of Scotland.
“This investment will also support local jobs, demonstrating our continued and future commitment to Perth and the surrounding area.”
SSEN also recently unveiled plans for a £17m warehouse in Dundee.
