Person tragically dies after being hit by train at West Lothian station

A person has died after being struck by a train at a Scots station.

Emergency services raced to Bathgate Station, West Lothian, shortly after the alarm was raised around 2.30pm on Wednesday, Janauary 19.

Paramedics rushed to the scene but the person was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

British Transport Police confirmed the incident is not being treated as suspicious.

A report will be sent to the procurator fiscal.

A British Transport Police spokesperson said: "British Transport Police were called to Bathgate station at 2.34pm today (19 January) following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

"Paramedics also attended, and sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

"The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the procurator fiscal."

Scotrail confirmed that replacement buses are in operation between Airdrie and Edinburgh Park.

Valid train tickets are also being accepted on selected Edinburgh Tram services.

Affected passengers can also travel on alternative rail routes, where applicable, between Glasgow and Edinburgh via Falkirk High and via Cumbernauld.
